Language toolkits

I wanted to give some updates, mainly about something that took me several full days of work, but I’m very proud of it.

I should call them something like “language toolkits” or so.

The idea came from the fact that when I was at what we call “scuola media” (middle school) in Italy I had a lot of foreign classmates and one of the best things I did at that time was trying to learn a bit of their languages. But how?

The most useful way was memorizing some short texts that they would kindly translate for me from Italian, such as how I spent my Sunday.

I was so obsessed with these texts that I learned them all by heart… and now, after 15 years, I still remember how to say things like “apricot juice” in Albanian.

Moreover, fluency is always a matter of putting pieces of sentences together like LEGO bricks, and to reach this point, there is no other way but repeating, repeating, and repeating… but what if you don’t have many chances to keep repeating things with people?

I mean, that’s why we get very fast at introducing ourselves but we are not so much at ease when we have to speak about an unusual topic. It’s just a matter of how often we repeat certain sentence patterns.

I would have loved to have a series of texts to bluntly copy and adapt to my needs with exercises to memorize them… but since nobody offered them to me, I made them myself xD

They include audio, translation, explanation, and several exercises for each one. There are 10 texts for each language and I prepared them in Italian, German, French, English for Italians, and two versions of Dutch with two different pronunciations (actual Dutch or Belgian Dutch).
